We caught up with a past ABCOM BCIT student bursary award-winner, Melissa Hoffart, recently. Here's what she had to say!
Name: Melissa Hoffart
Company: Destination British Columbia
Position: Digital Marketing Specialist
Number of Years in the Work Force
Since graduating from BCIT, it’s been one year that I’ve been working. However, previous to BCIT, I worked in the travel industry for seven years in both sales and marketing positions.
What do you love most about your job?
At the end of the day, what I love most about my job is that I am truly passionate about what I do.
Having spent the majority of my adult life working in the travel industry, I am proud to be promoting British Columbia as a travel destination. We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world and I am confident that the experience travellers have when they visit this province is positive and one they will never forget.
Anyone who knows me will say that I am a crazy cat lady. I absolutely love animals and the planet. These are two things that I am personally passionate about protecting and preserving.
I am truly passionate about travel and tourism; it’s one of the few marketable products/services that [I personally believe] enrich people’s lives. Pursuing a career in marketing was the core reason of why I went back to BCIT to obtain a post-secondary education and my career goal was to promote [Canada] tourism. Within travel marketing, I am passionate about [and love to nerd out on] data analysis and using it to make smart, targeted decisions.
What’s your best advice to give students who are enrolled right now?
Get involved with as many clubs and extracurricular activities as you can. What you do while you are studying will lay the foundation and help pave the path to where you want to go in the future.
